Saturday Science Clubs

Saturday Science Clubs features hands on science and engineering projects and activities for youth in grades 1 and up on Saturdays. These 3 hour club meetings are split into classes by grade so that all children will be challenged and have fun with campers at the same grade as themselves.

Registration is closed for the Winter Term

Saturday Science Clubs will be back in September 2023!

Dates included:

Session #1 Saturday January 21, 2023
Session #2 Saturday, January 28, 2023
Session #3 Saturday, February 4, 2023
Session #4 Saturday, February 11, 2023
Session #5 Saturday, March 4, 2023
Session #6 Saturday, March 11, 2023

Please note that we will not be meeting during the February break

Everyone gathers at the main entrance (lobby) of the Engineering building for check-in at 9 am. There will be sign-in tables where the campers will meet.  From there the SCI-FI instructors will lead their groups to their classrooms.  The instructors will lead everyone back to the main entrance for check-out at 12 pm.

The Saturday Science Clubs program will include tours on campus, science activities and engineering projects. We try to change the take-home projects year after year in such a way to minimize the chance of a student building the same project two years in a row.

For Students in grades 1 to 6: Each week features a different theme in science and engineering. The curriculum is also completely different in each term.  Topics from the last year included biology, logic, space, health science, chemistry, technology, rocks and fossils, physics, computer science, and environmental science.

Offered Clubs

Grade 1-3: Curiosity
Grade 4-6: Enterprise
Grade 7+: Codemakers

Participants in Codemakers will learn the methods of software development using logic and coding algorithms using the Python coding language. New coders will learn the basics of 2D computer graphics using Python Turtle. Returning coding club members will explore game development with Pygame Zero. Students should know how to use a Personal Computer. Coding experience is not necessary.
